Aida Flores Statement on the Details of Alderman Solis’ Federal Investigation

“I am disgusted by my Alderman’s conduct and I am more motivated than ever to break up the old boys club at City Hall. Danny Solis should step down, and he should do it today.

“Young girls in our city need positive role models to show them who they can be, no matter where they’re from. As a public school teacher and a mom of two kids, I take that responsibility seriously, and I am outraged by the example Danny Solis has set with his casual disrespect for women and greed.

###

Aida Flores was born in Chicago and raised on 17th Street, between Laflin and Loomis. A first-generation student, she grew up in the Chicago Public Schools, attending Pilsen Academy, Orozco Community Academy, and Benito Juarez High School. At age 14, Aida became a mother. But with the help of her teachers, her community and her family, she worked hard, finished school, and became the first student at BJHS to earn the Bill Gates Millennium Scholarship. This allowed to her to attend Georgetown University where she earned her BA in Education. After returning to her old high school, Benito Juarez, to teach, Aida saw the challenges our public schools face and so decided to continue her education by earning her EdM from the Harvard Graduate School of Education so that she could return to her community once again, this time as a principal for the Chicago Public Schools.

Aida Flores is an example of what is possible when a child has a village to nurture and support her. Education is her number one priority, and when she is Alderman, she will fight to make sure that every child in the 25th Ward and Chicago has the same opportunity to succeed that she had.
