Aida Flores Responds to Retirement of Danny Solis
Press Release for November 24, 2018
25th Ward challenger thanks Ald. Solis for his service to the community
Today, Aida Flores responded to the retirement announcement of longtime 25th Ward Alderman, Danny Solis, by thanking him for his service to the community as her campaign builds momentum to replace him.
“I want to thank Alderman Solis for his 20+ years of service to the 25th Ward. I believe that despite our significant policy disagreements, we share a deep commitment to improving the lives of working families in this district, so I look forward to partnering with him to continue that work moving forward,” Flores said.
As a Mexican immigrant who settled in Pilsen and went on to become the president of the Chicago City Council, Danny Solis’ story represents the American Dream that so many immigrant families continue to strive for.
Flores continued, “As a lifelong Pilsen resident, mother of two, and educator, I know how important it is for our kids to see a local leader who looks like them in a position of power. I have raised a child in this neighborhood, and with Chicago Public Schools, with my second child reaching Kindergarten this year. I have led schools with 100+ staff members and a multi-million dollar budget. I am proud to be the first woman on the ballot in the 25th Ward in over a decade. I am running to serve my community and inspire a new generation of young women to become leaders in Chicago.”
Aida Flores is the only woman running to represent the 25th Ward, and her campaign continues to build momentum following the midterm elections, which saw a historic number of women win seats in Congress.
